Digital citizenship is a big deal. It encompasses everything from learning not to share personal information online, to rules on spamming and inappropriate language, to understanding the dangers of cyberbullying.
In My Big Campus, profanity is intercepted, files are scanned for viruses and flesh-tone analysis, and Bob Campus, our site mentor, is present 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure good online behavior. Even with all of these safety elements, teaching students to be good digital citizens is imperative. Not every website or social network can be the safe-zone that is My Big Campus, so let’s use the safe MBC platform to teach the principles of digital citizenship.
We have created a Digital Citizenship Pledge with 12 key points for teaching students to be good stewards of their online resources. Review the pledge with your students, give examples of good online behavior, and answer questions that might arise from the discussion. We have even created a fun pledge poster for you to hang in your classroom as a constant reminder of appropriate behavior. Download it here!
